Sex and Old TV Shows

Hubby and I have been watching season 1 of Star Trek, The Original Series for the last couple night on Netflix's Instant Watch, and tonight's episode got me thinking. Sex was more obvious in some of the old series than it is today even.

Look at Star Trek, TNG versus the original. I don't remember seeing Ryker lose his shirt as often as Captain Kirk. Kirk has to get into a fight in almost every episode and rip his shirt. And of course from one cut away scene to another that little rip turns into a huge rip,sometimes losing his shirt entirely. I have seen more of William Shatner's chest than of any modern day actor I can think of. (Except maybe for Gerard Butler ) So maybe I can forgive their tendency to have the women wear clothes that barely cover their "petunias" (hehehe, my mother's phrase), if we got to see half naked men. And a young Bill Shatner wasn't that bad looking either.

The first thing Antonio Alvarez noticed about the woman on the sidewalk was her waist length, light brown hair. He revved his Harley and watched her stroll along the curb line of this high-end tourist avenue with her head high and tanned arms swinging. Her hair swayed along her back, swishing between her shoulder blades, the tips caressing her bare waist above the rolled-down shorts curving over her hips. The white stretch of fabric that barely covered her round, slightly protruding butt clung to the split in her cheeks like the skin on a ripe peach. Below, the hem flashed orbs of alabaster skin like tiny quarter moons. A thong framed her tight, exquisite ass. Long, taut, tanned legs and small feet in high espadrilles moved in time to the sway of her hair. She must have heard his motorcycle behind her then, because she looked over her left shoulder and slowed her stride to check him out.

When she turned her face, their eyes met and Antonio's adrenaline surged as if she had kissed him. His heart raced and he revved the engine of his bike again. The woman in the woven espadrilles, tight white shorts and gauzy red cotton tank top stood out in the crowd like a holograph against a flat surface. Suddenly, the reason for his visit to Annapolis vanished. Antonio needed to meet this woman and see her again.

And again.

Looking at her jolted his dulled senses and numbed heart to life after a long drought. He hadn't so much as glanced at another woman since Estela's death. It had been eighteen months since the woman he loved was killed in the line of duty and he had never been unfaithful to her memory.

Not regular human black, but midnight black, so black it was almost blue. The contrast was strong enough to have her heart nearly jumping into her throat.

A movement pulled her attention further into the room only for her to gasp once again.

The third man was almost bland in comparison to the white-haired man, except he was nearly as tall as the man who still held her in his arms. A long, lean body that went on and on made her salivate before her eyes ever reached his face. His hair was deep black, nearly the same color as the other man's skin, but all similarity ended there. His curly mop of waves just begged to be played with. It, too, was shoulder-length like the first man's and framed his green eyes beautifully, but his skin was entirely different. The deep chestnut tone to it lent him an air of being permanently tanned, but she doubted he got much sun onboard an interstellar ship.
